Hi. My name is Ryan Osolin. I like to think my last name suits me well. This is because Osolin means little oak tree, a tree that has yet to mature into the strongest type of tree. It portrays potential, maturation, and strength. This is my family name of course, brought into America by my great grandfather who had to slightly change the pronunciation to “Americanize” the name. The name Ryan is not American either. It comes from the Irish word Rían, which translates to “little king.” I despise the name actually; the sound of it is that of a knife scraping down a chalkboard. It is short and simple, too things I never want to be. I would rather a name with more than one syllable so I can have a nickname. You cannot really shorten Ryan. Ry: short for Ryan? I think not. However, I do get the occasional nickname “Rhino,” which is slur for “Ryan O.” I kind of wish my name was John. My father’s name is John Osolin, and his father is John Osolin, and so is the father before him. So it would be cool if I carried on the family name. Then again, the confusion caused by this name would make living in the same household irritating.

Also, my Initials are R.P.O. I wish I was born on my mothers side of the family so my last name was Gerboth. Then my initials would be R.P.G, which can stand for Rocket propelled grenade. But for now I am just a rocket-propelled obituary. The “p” stands for Phillip, in which is derived from the Greek “Philippos” which means horse lover; but to be honest, I couldn’t love horses any LESS. And just to straighten things out, I am not Greek or Irish, so the names Ryan and Phillip were clearly not family names. So despite my parents’ best efforts, my name sucks. I guess I will have to put up with it for this life. I do not plan on living long anyways (just kidding).
